Christian Brown Prener is assistant professor of law at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), currently based in Florence  at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, European University Institute (EUI) and a visiting scholar at MOBILE- Center for Global Mobility Law, UCPH.

My main research foci are intersections of human transnational mobility, international law, citizenship, human rights and migration. My research is has been published in both legal and interdisciplinary journals, including the German Law Journal, International Journal of Discrimination and the Law, Statelessness and Citizenship Review and I've authored  the book “Denationalisation and Its Discontents” (Brill 2022),  based on my doctoral research.

As my publications attest, my work is often interdisciplinary, quantitative-oriented and theory-driven. I maintain that there is a need to expand interdisciplinary approaches within complex fields of law, such as mobility law.

Funded by the Carlsberg Foundation, my current and future research projects explore how law shapes patterns of transnational mobility and influence social and economic inequalities on the global scale.

Beyond academia, I've co-authored the textbook "Europe's Digital Future" (in Danish) based on conversations with former European Commission EVP, Margrethe Vestager.  (Columbus, digitalfremtid.eu)

I've served as an advisor to the Danish Parliament, NGO’s and litigators  on issues related to citizenship revocation and repatriation in particular in regard to  Syria—including in two cases brought before the Danish Supreme Court.

I earned my PhD in International Law in 2021  from the University of Aarhus and have since taught and conducted research at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), University of Copenhagen (iCourts & MOBILE),  the Danish Institute for Human Rights,  the European University Institute (RSC), University of Brasilia and the National Law School of India.

Prior to working in academia, I worked in documentary  filmmaking (see film works here)
