Christian Prener is Assistant Professor at the Department of Law, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and an Research Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) at the European University Institute (EUI). His current research focuses on the intersection of public international law, citizenship and patterns of global migration and mobility.

Christian is the author of several peer-reviewed publications including the book “Denationalisation and Its Discontents” (Brill 2022) and “The Dichotomy within Denationalisation: Perpetuating or Emancipating from its Discriminatory Past” (Oxford Refugee Studies Special Issue of IJDL, 2022). He is also the co-author of the Danish textbook on “Europas Digitale Fremtid” (Columbus, digitalfremtid.eu) based on conversations with European Commission EVP, Margrethe Vestager.  

Christian has served as an advisor to the Danish Parliament, NGO’s and human rights-lawyers on issues related to citizenship revocation and repatriation in particular in regard to  Syria. He is also a frequent contributor to Danish and international media.

Previously, Christian has been a visiting scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR), iCourts, Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen. He holds a Ph.D from the University of Aarhus, Denmark, a Master degree in Law from the University of Copenhagen.  

During 2021-2022, Christian co-started ‘JUST SOCIETY’ -an interdisciplinary research collaboration between SDU and the National School of india, University of Brasilia and University of Johannesburg focusing on research and teachings on social protection, the rule of law and social sustainability in Global South countries.

Christian’s was awarded the Danish Ministry of Justice’s Master thesis award for his thesis on international law and foreign fighters.
